    Chief of Staff and Deputy Secretary General of  Parliament, Mr. Chaminda Kularatne, participated in the Commemoration of the 40th Anniversary of the National People’s Congress of the People’s Republic of China’s Affiliation with the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) and the 2024 Interregional Seminar on the Achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for Parliaments of Developing Countries held in China from the 18th to the 28th of August 2024 on behalf of the Parliament of Sri Lanka.

    Mrs. Kushani Rohanadeera, Secretary General of the Parliament, stated that the Parliament is scheduled to meet on Tuesday, September 03rd, and Wednesday, September 04th. The Committee on Parliamentary Business Chaired by Hon. Mahinda Yapa Abeywardana decided upon the Business for the week.

    • Office Assistants: Salaries will increase from LKR 5,450 to LKR 13,980, depending on the grade.
    • Drivers: Salaries will rise from LKR 6,960 to LKR 16,340, depending on the grade.
    • Samurdhi Development Officers/Agricultural Research and Production Assistants: Salaries will increase from LKR 8,340 to LKR 15,685.
    • Management Assistants: Salaries will be raised from LKR 10,140 to LKR 17,550.
    • Development Officers: Salaries will go up from LKR 12,710 to LKR 25,150.
    • Public Health Inspectors/Family Health Workers: Salaries will increase from LKR 12,885 to LKR 25,275.
    • Radiographers/Pharmacists: Salaries will rise from LKR 13,280 to LKR 25,720.
    • Nursing Officers: Salaries will increase from LKR 13,725 to LKR 26,165.
    • School Principals: Salaries will increase from LKR 23,425 to LKR 39,595.
    • Teachers: Salaries will be raised from LKR 17,480 to LKR 38,020.
    • Police Officers: Salaries will increase from LKR 10,740 to LKR 23,685.
    • Grama Niladhari Officers: Salaries will be raised from LKR 11,340 to LKR 23,575.
    • Administrative Officers: The salary will be LKR 28,885.
    • Deputy Directors/Deputy Commissioners: The starting salary will be LKR 43,865.
    • Divisional Secretaries/Directors/Commissioners/Senior Assistant Secretaries: Salaries will increase to LKR 57,545.
    • Medical Officers: Salaries will increase from LKR 35,560 to LKR 53,075.
    • Implementation of steps to double annual salary increments.
    • Effective from January 1, 2025, salaries will also be increased for employees of public corporations, boards, statutory bodies, universities, and the armed forces.

    The Cabinet of Ministers has approved the implementation of the recommendations from the Presidential Expert Committee, chaired by Udaya R. Seneviratne, appointed by President Ranil Wickremesinghe to investigate and address salary discrepancies in the government sector.
