The Speaker of the Sri Lankan Parliament, Minister Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena stated that a special committee has been appointed to oversee the incident that took place in the Parliament on 21st of April.

Army Commander General Shavendra Silva asserted that no decision has been taken to enforce an island-wide lockdown and requested the public to avoid any mass gatherings as much as possible to curb the spread of the Covid-19 virus.

The Secretary of Environment Dr. Anil Jasinghe stated that a Cabinet paper has already been drafted to convert the Muthurajawela Sanctuary to a National Park.

At a ceremony held on 16 April 2021 at the Headquarters of UNESCO in Paris, Ambassador Prof. Kshanika Hirimburegama presented her credentials to the Director General of UNESCO Audrey Azoulay, as Sri Lanka’s Permanent Delegate to the United Nations Education, Science and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).
