A special operation carried out by the Navy in the sea area off Dodanduwa, Galle, led to the apprehension of 04 suspects with 5kg and 945g of crystal methamphetamine (ICE), 2kg and 47g of heroin and 03g of Kerala cannabis and seizure of a multiday fishing trawler used to transfer the narcotic substances.

Despite the worsening global situation triggered by the Covid pandemic, the process of repatriation of Sri Lankans, one of the most pressing challenges at hand has been judiciously spear headed by the Foreign Ministry under the directive of Minister Dinesh Gunawardana, enduring insurmountable challenges overseas amid lockdowns, isolations, curfews and closure of air space, to ensure swift return of Sri Lankans who are in distress.

Foreign Minister Dinesh Gunawardena called on Ambassador Juana Elena Ramos Rodriguez at the Cuban Embassy in Colombo on the occasion of the National Day of Cuba which fell on  1^st January 2021 and extended best wishes to the Cuban Government.
