    The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Berlin celebrated Vesak on 27 May 2021 virtually, with the participation of a limited number of invitees at the Embassy premises, in compliance with the Covid restrictions currently in place in Germany.

    On a request made by the Disaster Management Centre to the Ministry of Defence (MOD) and on the directives received to the Sri Lanka Air Force from the MOD the Commander of the Air Force, Air Marshal Sudarshana Pathirana instructed to deploy SLAF personnel to collect debris and clean the coastal areas affected by the ill-fated container ship, 'X-press Pearl'. As a result, more than 300 Air Force personnel from SLAF Base Katunayake launched a cleaning programme along the coastal belt area from Dungalpitiya to Pitipana (7Km), from 27 May 2021 onwards to prevent people from collecting harmful wreckages and floating items.

    The Ministry of Health has decided to provide special training on Covid-19 treatment methods for the Ayurvedic staff who have been assigned for Covid-19 treatment services and this special training is scheduled to begin in the next two days.

    State Minister of Samurdhi, Household Economy, Micro Finance, Self-Employment and Business Development, Shehan Semasinghe asserted that given the pandemic situation and travel restrictions in the country, the Government has decided to provide the Rs. 5000 allowance again starting from June 02 and if the allowance received by a person from the government is less than Rs. 5,000, steps will be taken to pay the arrears.
