    Rs. 485 mn worth dry rations for drought hit people in Puttalam

    Minister of Disaster Management, Power and Renewable Energy Ranjith Siyambalapitiya said the government has provided Rs. 485 million worth relief to the 167,000 families affected by the drought in Puttalam district.Instructions have been given to provide relief to those who have not received assistance through a cabinet paper, the Minister said last Friday (20th) at a special meeting held at the Puttalam District Secretariat.

    The special meeting was convened to discuss the issues of the people affected by the drought prevailing in the Puttalam district.During the meeting the Minister said a construction of a wind barrier to control the ash emissions to the atmosphere from the Norochcholai coal power plant has been completed and it will be implemented promptly. He added that steps will be taken to bring about a meaningful solution to the problem.The minister also said that measures will be taken to provide drinking water to 25,000 families.
