The police have deployed 117 officers of the Life Saving Unit near the major reservoirs in Anuradhapura for the safety of pilgrims who come to the sacred city for Poson festival and bathe in the reservoirs.
The officers have been deployed following a special training workshop. It has been reported that the officers of the Life Saving Unit rescued 14 people from drowning during the last Poson season.
The lifesaving officers request the pilgrims to only bathe in in shallow waters at appropriate places and to adhere to safety precautions.
