Sea areas around the island

The sea areas off the coast extending from Puttalam to Batticaloa via Colombo and Galle, may be rough and may experience surges (particularly during high tide time) from 24th of July to 26th July 2018 due to the effect of swell waves, having 3.0 -3.5-meter height.

Showers or thunder showers will occur at a few places in the eastern sea areas and light showers may occur in the sea areas extending from Colombo to Matara via Galle.

Winds will be westerly or south-westerly in direction in the sea areas around the island and wind speed will be 30-40 kmph.

The sea areas extending from Puttalam to Pottuvil via Negombo, Galle and Hambanthota can be rough at times as the wind speed can increase up to 60 kmph at times.

Naval and fishing communities are requested to be vigilant in this regard.

Bay of Bengal

Other sea areas : Mainly fair weather.

Winds:

00-06N, 80E-95E : Westerly to South-westerly / (30-45) kmph; gusting up to (50-60) kmph at times.
Other sea areas : South-westerly / (30-40) kmph; gusting up to 50 kmph at times.

Sea State:

00-06N, 80E-95E :Fairly rough, rough at times.
Other sea areas : Moderate, Fairly rough at times.

Arabian sea area

The wind speed will be increase to up considerable level in this sea area during next few days too.

10N-20N, 60E-70E : South-westerly to Westerly / (30-50) kmph, gusting up to (60-70) kmph at times.

05S-10S, 60E-70E : South-easterly / (30-40) kmph; gusting up to (50-60) kmph at times.

02S-10S, 90E-100E : South-easterly / (30-40) kmph; gusting up to 50 kmph at times.

00-10S, 70E-80E : Clockwise / (30-40) kmph; gusting up to 50 kmph at times.

Other sea areas : Southerly or South-easterly / (20-30) kmph.

Sea State:

05S-10S, 60E-70E : Fairly Rough, rough at times.

02S-10S, 90E-100E : Fairly Rough, rough at times.

Other sea areas : Moderate.

Temporarily strong gusty winds and rough seas can be expected in the sea areas during thundershowers.

Land areas

Showers or thundershowers will occur in Uva and Eastern provinces and in Polonnaruwa, Mullaitivu and Vauniya districts after 2.00 pm.

Several spells of showers will occur in Central, Sabaragamuwa and Western provinces and light showers will occur in Kurunegala, Galle and Matara districts.
