Approval of the Cabinet has been granted previously to secure funds amounting to US$ 125 million from the International Development Association (IDA) of the World Bank for the improvement of the Road Management Capacities of the Road Development Authority and the improvement of selected roads.
However, the proposal made by Hon. Ranil Wickremasinghe, the Prime Minister in his capacity as the Minister of National Policies and Economic Affairs, to make use of US$ 100 million out of the funds allocated for the essential maintenance and improvement to be made in the provincial roads island-wide expeditiously and secure the project management services required for the purpose, was approved by the Cabinet.
