Ambassador Shobini Gunasekera met with the Chairman of the Philippines-Sri Lanka Business Council (PH-SLBC) Michael Chen and members of the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI) Board at the residence. The prospective meeting centered on the collaborative initiatives between the PH-SLBC and their Sri Lankan counterparts in promoting bilateral trade and investment between Sri Lanka and the Philippines in line with the fresh milestone of the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties. Ambassador Gunasekera assured her support to the Council in its endeavors to initiate potential collaboration and interaction between the business sector of both countries particularly in identified priority areas such as agriculture, infrastructure, IT-BPM, retail exports, among many others. Further, she invited Chairman Chen and the PCCI officers, who are also seasoned businessmen and investors, to look into existing and anticipated investment opportunities in the Colombo International Financial City and the Hambantota Port. Meanwhile, Chairman Chen committed to work with the Embassy in addressing the gap in bilateral trade by working on opportunities for market expansion of SL products in the Philippine market. He also mentioned his support to the investment promotion activities of the Embassy geared to attract Filipino investors particularly in the manufacturing, infrastructure, and renewable energy sector. The PCCI delegation was comprised of PCCI Director for Agriculture and Fishery Committee/ Vice Chairman for Asia and ASEAN Affairs Roberto Amores, Vice Chair for European Affairs Jesus Co, and Assistant Secretary-General for International and Regional Affairs Edwin Glindro, and Executive Assistant John Coluso.
