“Although clear and fruitful policies are implemented in some ministries, to put aside such policies with the change of Ministers would block the progress and forward march of the country,” the President added.
Addressing a workshop at the inaugural session held yesterday (June 22) at the Sri Lanka Foundation Institute, Colombo to draw up Sound National Policies organized by the Movement for “Better Future Through Sound National Policies,” President Sirisena stressed on the importance of taking into account divergent views of all political parties beneficial to the large community in drawing up national policies.
The new government to be formed after the next General Election will have 30 ministers of whom the subjects will be drawn up in a scientific way, the President said. He also said that it was of paramount importance to canvass the views of the elite, the intelligentsia and pool them together to come out with a better and beneficial national polices.” Underscoring the importance of reaching a common agreement at the Parliamentary level, the President said that such an agreement guarantees the implementation of the sound policies despite the change of governments.
“Governments may change but common agreement reached at Parliamentary level ensure their implementation for the betterment of the country and her people,” he added.
“ It is sad that there are some government officers who try to win favours or to be in the good books of the new minister assigned to the Ministry, coming out with lies and criticism of even the good policies implemented by the previous minister,” the President added.
“There are Ministers going on with their personal agendas introducing changes into their respective Ministries and getting involved in a lot of corruption, deceit resulting in irreparable damage.” The Sound National Policies drawn up through a Common Agreement, would help put a stop to such corrupt practices,” the President observed.
Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka, Deputy Minister Harsha de Silva and former Ministers D.E.W. Gunasekera, Rohitha Bogollagama and Mano Ganeshan were also present.
