Prime Minister Ranil Wickremasinghe has said that it is planned to launch a massive development drive in the country through the District Secretariats with the involvement of people’s representatives, after winning the forthcoming elections. He emphasized that priority would be given to upgrade the village economy. The Prime Minister was addressing a gathering at Temple Trees yesterday. It was a meeting organized for District Secretaries. The meeting deliberated on the issues prevailing in the respective Districts and programmes which are operative. Also present on the occasion were Ministers Kabir Hashim, Ravi Karunanayake, Joseph Michael Perera and Deputy Minister Dr. Harsha de Silva. The Prime Minister said that priority would be given as to how the village roads should be built and build the village economy. He stressed that more funds should be spent on education and health. He added that these were two main sections that are paralyzed in many parts of the country.
