    A temporary decrease in the heavy rain conditions in the southwestern part of the island is expected from today (04).

    The Department of Export Agriculture has confirmed that last year’s pepper harvest exceeded 30,000 metric tons. The annual yield of pepper in Sri Lanka is about 23,000 metric tons.

    The Sri Lanka Navy yesterday (03) brought ashore the 06 fishermen whom were rescued from a distressed trawler. The fishermen were rescued by a tanker about 480 nautical miles (889km) off Dondra, south of Sri Lanka, on being coordinated by the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) Colombo.

    President Ranil Wickremesinghe stressed that with the stabilization of the country’s economy; there should be no inclination towards traditional politics. He underscored that the country can only be moved forward through a structured plan.
