In order to encourage the fishing communities in the North and East, 5450 bags of rice subsidies of 50kg each received from the Chinese Government have been handed over to the Assistant Directors of the Fisheries department in the districts of Northern and Eastern provinces.
Several spells of showers will occur in Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in Kandy, Nuwara-Eliya, Galle and Matara districts.
Prof Chandana Jayaratne, the Chairman of the ACCIMT, said that the ACCIMT astronomical observatory and the biggest telescope in Sri Lanka would be opened for the general public on July 24th night from 11.00 p.m. to 25th 3.00 a.m., facilitating the public to observe the Lunar Occultation of Saturn - a rare celestial event that Sri Lankans can see again only on 24th April 2037.
The census for the second phase of the “Aswesuma” Welfare Benefit Program is scheduled to be completed by July 31.
