    DECISIONS TAKEN BY THE CABINET OF MINISTERS AT ITS MEETING HELD ON 21.11.2017 Featured

    01. Making provisions for preparing a supplementary Electoral Register to enable youth to cast their votes (Document No - 05)

    Proponent – H.E. the President Maithripala Sirisena
    Description – Preparation of the Electoral register take approximately about 06 months from June 01st and new voters registered in that period will not be able to cast their votes in an election held within that period and in such case the register of the previous year is used. Election Commission has proposed to make provisions to prepare a supplementary register by including names of new voters for enabling them casting vote in such an election. Hence, it was decided to instruct Legal Draftsman to amend the Registration of Electors Act no 44 of 1980 in this regard.


    02. Translation of the book ‘Mahasupawanasaya’ in to English Language (Document No - 06)

    Description – it was decided to provide funds to translate and print 1000 copies of the above book which was written by Dr. T. Pabilis Silva that describes the rich food culture of Sri Lanka.


    03. Empowerment of National Art – Culture Policy (Document No - 07)

    Proponent – H.E. the President Maithripala Sirisena
    Description - It was decided to establish a National Operational Unit for Cultural Renaissance attached to the Presidential Secretariat in this regard.


    04. Obtaining a Patrol Vessel for Sri Lanka Coast Guard Department (Document No - 09)

    Proponent – H.E. the President Maithripala Sirisena as the Minister of Defence
    Description - India has agreed to transfer the “Varuna” patrol ship used by Indian Coast Guard Department, to Sri Lanka as a free grant and the Cabinet has decided to accept the above grant.


    05. Convert Pine Forest Plantations to Local Species (Document No -10)

    Proponent – H.E. the President Maithripala Sirisena as the Minister of Mahaweli Development and Environment
    Description – It was decided to implement the above project within next 03 years under grant assistants by the Asia Pacific Network for Sustainable Forest Management and Rehabilitation.


    06. Signing of agreement on bilateral aviation between Sri Lanka and Jamaica (Document No - 12)

    Description - It was decide to prepare an Action plan to act according to liabilities of the above agreement for gaining its benefits.

     

    09. Proceedings of Weras Ganga Storm Water Drainage & Environment Improvement Project (Document No-27)
    Proponent - Megapolis & Western Development Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka
    Description - It was decided to provide funds for above project which aims minimizing of Floods in Kesbewa, Maharagama, Dehiwala, Ratmalana, & Moratuwa areas.

     

    10. Improvement of aquaculture in South West Manmunai area, Batticaloa (Document No -29)
    Proponent – Fisheries & Aquatic Resources Development Minister Mahinda Amaraweera
    Description - It was decided to allocate lands in above areas for investors on lease basis, selected through Government’s procurement procedure for developing aquaculture in about 450 ponds.

     

    11. Amendment of Debt Conciliation Ordinance No. 39 of 1941 (Document No-34)
    Proponent –Justice Minister Thalatha Athukorala
    Description - Above ordinance is to be amended to expand the jurisdiction of the Debt Conciliation Board.

     

    12. Rajgama Urban Housing Project (Document -36)
    Proponent –Housing & Constructions Minister Sajith Premadasa
    Description - It was decided to implement this Project for providing houses for 137 families & construct a community Hall for this Village.

     

    13. Regularization of disposal of State Lands and prevent illegal possession of State lands (Document No. – 38)
    Proponent - Land and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Gayantha Karunathilaka
    Description - It was decided to implement proposals made by Committee of Officials appointed in this regard.

     

    14. Preparation of Legal framework for implementation of National Land use Policy (Document No - 40)

    Description – It was decided to instruct Legal Draftsmen to prepare a bill based on the above policy.

     

    15. Exports Crops Villages Projects (Document – No. – 46)

    Description- It was decided to provide a land of 400 acres for agricultural activities at Woodside estate and to expand it on its success.

     

    16. Award of contracts for refilling of tires of buses of SLTB (Document No 47)

    Desorption – Awarded to 09 Companies as recommended by Standing Cabinet Appointed Procurement Committee and Procurement Appeal Board.

     

    17. Improvement of old Kotte Road (Rajagiriya Section) (Document No 48)
    Proponent - Higher Education and Highways Minister Lakshman Kiriella
    Desorption - It was decided to implement above development work using direct labour method by the Road Development Authority.

     

    18. Acceleration of construction and development activities in hospitals (Document No 49)
    Proponent - Health Nutrition and Indigenous Medicine Minister (Dr.) Rajitha Senaratne
    Description- It was decided to award following contracts to state Construction institutions on the above purpose.


    • Oral Health Unit of Karapitiya Teaching Hospital.
    • Paediatric Ward of Ampara General Hospital CECB & Engineering
    • New building complex of Nindavur Base Hospital Services Private Limited

    • Six Storied building with theatre of Horana Base Hospital – Sri Lanka State Engineering Corporation


    19. Purchase of full cream milk powder for Thriposha production (Document No 50)
    Proponent - Health Nutrition and Indigenous Medicine Minister (Dr.) Rajitha Senaratne
    Description - It was decided to purchase 600 Mt of milk powder from Milco Company (a government Company) for LKR 486 Million required for year 2018.

    Cost – LKR 7,799 Million exclusive of taxes.

    Cost – LKR 219.89 million

     

    22. Make Efficient the process of providing a pair of shoes for student in Rural, ultra Rural and alienated schools (Document No - 56)

    Description - This year it has been decided to issue a gift voucher of LKR 1,200 to LKR 1,500 and to expend about LKR 808.27 million in this regard.
