In 2015 the foreign remittances received was USD 6980.3 million and it amounted to Rs. 949 billion. Therefore, compared to 2015 the increase in 2016 is USD 261.3 million which amounts to Rs.105.5 billion which is a 3.7% increase. In rupee terms the increase is 11.11%.
Minister Athukorala thanked the migrant workers who worked hard and as their remittances strengthen the country’s economy and assured that she will work towards their welfare and take all steps to protect their families.
