    November 11, 2014

The government plans to increase the per capita income upto 7,500 US dollars by 2020, Traditional Industries and Small Enterprises Minister Douglas Davananda says.

The minister said this while participating in the committee stage debate on budget 2015 under the expenditure heads of the Ministry of Traditional Industries and Small Enterprises in parliament today.

He said that the government had been able to increase the per capita upto 4,000 dollar mark. “Focus of the government during the recent past was to improve infrastructure facilities. But now the government is paying its attention to improve infrastructure, rural development, and welfare of people. We have brought our economy to a middle income earning country level while developing education, human resources, skills and talents, health sector etc. Our ministry has prepared an eight year strategic plan. We hope this plan would improve our rural economy to an unprecedented level that it would contribute for the improvement of per capita income,” the Minister said. (Special Reporter/HC)
