Plans are afoot to launch these clinics as a solution to the shortage of the double vaccination given to children over five years of age in certain areas. Accordingly the programme will be in place from this Friday. These activities will be handled by the Epidemiology Unit of the Health Ministry.
These double vaccinations will be procured from India and it is scheduled to reach the Medical Supplies Division before Thursday the 15th. Minister Rajitha Senaratne has given further instructions to the officials to implement the programme along with the immediate distribution of the vaccine to all hospitals in the island.
Taking into consideration reports that the double vaccination will not be given to areas such as Biyagama, Peliyagoda and Kaduwela, the Minister further issued instructions to all sectors to adhere to the letter the conduct of the children’s immunization programme sans any obstacles.
The Health Minister has also called on the public to immediately intimate any shortages of the vaccination in clinics after Friday.
