    An adjournment debate in Parliament on Avant Garde

    It has been agreed to grant an adjournment debate in Parliament on the Avant Garde transaction. This was revealed by Cabinet Spokesman Gayantha Karunatilake at the weekly Cabinet news briefing yesterday.

    The Minister said that the President has issued a directive for the conduct of investigations and the inquiries are in progress. An adjournment debate will also take place in Parliament next week.

     

    Further addressing the media, Minister Gayantha Karunatilake said that the number of Parliamentarians using pistols for their safety will be disclosed in the future. The Minister made this revelation, in a response to a query raised by a journalist on the imparting of training on shooting to the Parliamentarians.

     

    Minister Gayantha Karunatilake said that every Parliamentarian is being given a firearm and if they wish they can obtain it. The Minister said that he had been in Prliament for 15 years but has not secured a firearm. Any MP who wishes has the legal right to secure it. This is being issued by the Defence Ministry.
