Under this programme, seven bridges across Thammenna-ela will be protected. Also two bridges in the Dambulla-Matale and Dambulla-Kurunegala main roads, are included in that programme.

Earlier, floods severely damaged public and individual property in Dambulla due to overflowing of Thammenna-ela during rainy season. But, after the dredging and widening of the Thammenna-ela under this development project, the flood threat had diminished completely.

The bridges protection programme will be completed soon, the officials said.
