Two Japanese naval ships, "JS Makinami (DD-112)" and "JS Suzunami (DD-114)", on their way for counter piracy operations off Somalia and Gulf of Aden, arrived at the Port of Colombo marking Colombo as the 50th memorial port of call.
The delegation also comprised ships' Commanding Officers, Commander Shyuji Ono, Commander Masanori Amemiya and Commanding Officer of Japanese Coast Guard Commander Masaharu Fujimoto.
Visiting high officials had a cordial discussion with the State Minister of Defence on their exercise in Sri Lanka, matters of bilateral relevance and mutual interest during the meeting.
Sri Lanka Navy received the visiting vessels in accordance with the naval customs and traditions.
During the stay visiting Japanese ships will join in a Passage Exercise with the Sri Lanka Navy in-order-to share professional expertise between the two navies.
Mementoes were also exchanged between the State Minister and the Head of the Mission CAPT Yoshioka to mark the occasion.
The Defence Attach‚ of the Embassy of Japan in Sri Lanka, Captain Mototsugu Shigekawa accompanied the visiting officials.
