    Work on the largest Water Project in the North is in progress

    The Government is spending 5800 million rupees on a new Water Scheme for the resolution of the drinking water problems faced in the Vavuniya area.

    It is the massive Drinking Water Scheme launched in the Northern Province. The Scheme is being launched by building a three kilometer long dam across the Peraru Canal at Raasendrakulam. The Scheme will meet the drinking water needs of 109,000 members of 23,500 families. The Project covers 25 Grama Niladhari Divisions.

     

    The Asian Development Bank has given financial assistance. Vavuniya District Secretary inspected the manner in which the work on the project is being launched.
