    People's right to know the information will be safeguarded

    The fourth state of a country after the Executive, the Legislature and Judiciary is the mass media and all the efforts will be taken to safeguard the people’s right to know the information as well the journalists who work under numerous threats. When the Government ensures the freedom of the press the duty of a journalist is to write the truth without giving any space to achieve narrow objectives of some extremist elements, said Minister of Parliament Reforms and Mass Media Gayantha Karunatilaka.

    He made these observations participating at the 'Asi-Disi Media sholarship Awards ceremony held at Government Information Department today (18).

     

    The Minister further informed when the new Government work with the media ending the era of disappearances, white vans abductions and interferences of any kind , the responsibility of the media is not to isolate the Government politically.

     

    He also emphasized that the new Government is fully committed to ensure the media freedom and freedom of this country.
