    Program to curb excessive vehicle noise

    A program to crack down vehicles with excessive noises  will be implemented by the Southern Province Central Environmental Authority today (18) from 9.a.m to 2.p.m.

    This will be held near the Board of Investment situated in the Koggala Export Processing Zone along Galle, Matara main road.

     

    The program has been organized with the assistance of the Police Motor Traffic Unit and the Department of Motor Traffic taking into consideration the complaints received from the public on  heavy vehicle noise pollutions.

     

    According to the law, drivers cannot toot horns with sound levels exceeding 105 decibels within a two metre range. Similarly, such sound or noise emanated should not exceed 93 decibels within a seven metre range. With the aim of creating awareness on these rules and regulations among motorist and control the noise pollution, the CEA is organizing these programmes.
