The Municipal Council has launched several programmes to convert Kandy to a garbage free city.
Kandy Mayor Sena Dissanayake expressing views to news.lk said that earlier 150 tons of garbage had been collected in Kandy on a daily basis and today it had been brought down to 130 tons. He said that school children had a big role to play in this regard by acting in an exemplary manner.
The Kandy Municipal Council has also provided drinking water to 58 schools in the Kandy city free of charge.
