    Steps to address teacher shortages

    The Minister of Education Akila Wiraj Kariyawasam said that teachers would be recruited subject--wise to fill teacher shortages and that principals dedicated to develop schools would be given local and foreign training opportunities in the future. He further said that a training center for principals will be setup in Madiwela at a cost of 900 million rupees.

     

    He made these observations participating at an event held at the Ministry auditorium on Monday (25) to grant financial assistance of Rs.2 Million each to 140 schools which have commenced studies on the advanced level science stream. The schools have been selected under the programme to develop 1,000 secondary schools and out of the financial assistance it is planned to develop school laboratories, scoence rooms, to provide electricity and water as well as schools physical development.

     

    Minister Kariyawasam speaking to the principals presence there said the future of the country will be developed by the education system and a long journey has to be gone in the education field while saving the tradition.

     

    He further added that the government would continue to provide assistance as in the previous year and 10,000 schools will be developed as soon as possible in accordance to the international standards.
