He pointed out that the Ceylon Elelctricity Board will do the wiring of households that require electricity irrespective of their income status and the relevant cost will be deducted in 72 instalments under concessionary interest rates.

The Deputy Minister made these remarks participating at the programme held at the Nuwara Eliya District Secretariat yesterdayto bring awareness on the government's electrification programme under "A brighter country – eliminating darkness”.

The Deputy Minister further noted that it has been identified that there are 5,285 households without elelctricity in the Nuwara Eliya District and this number may increase under the new programme with new concessionary interest rates. He further added that even if the land does not belong to a person electricity supply could be obtained by submitting a certificate of occupancy.

Public representatives and state officials were present at the awareness programme held under the direction of District Secretary Helan Meegasmulla.
