    UN Human Rights Chief visits Kandy

    The visiting United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Prince Zeid Ra'ad Al Hussein paid homage to the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic in Kandy on Monday (08).

    After paying homage to the Sacred Tooth Relic, Prince Zeid Ra’ad Al Hussein met with the Diyawadana Nilame Pradeep Nilanga Dela, and the Chief Prelate of the Malwathu Chapter of the Siam Sect Most Ven. Thibbatuwawe Sri Sumangala Thero, following which he paid homage to the Malwathu Maha Viharaya.

     

    Prince Hussein during his visit to Kandy then called on the Chief Prelate of the Asgiri Chapter most venerable Galagama Sri Aththadassi thera.

     

    Speaking to media after calling on the Chief Prelates of the Asgiri and Malwathu Chapters Prince Zeid Ra’ad Al Hussein said in continuation of his visit to Sri Lanka, he is delighted and very honoured to be visititing Kandy and the visit to the Temple of the tooth was a moving experience and a very rare privilege for anyone.

     

    United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Prince Zeid Ra’ad Al Hussein further said that he will hold discussions with President Maithripala Sirisena and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe today and also with the victims of the LTTE from the sinhalese side, those who have suffered as a result of the attacks by the LTTE.
