    February 16, 2016

The Minister of Social Empowerment and Welfare S.B.Dissanayake stated that the whole investigation on the war crimes would be carried out under a local mechanism with local judges as the President Maithreepala Sirisena stated at his first press coference after returning from Geneva.

He said, the foreign judges are possible to come to the country to see that process and any support could be taken from them, but no interference will be there for the investigations.

Minister stated that the former President Rajapakshe also received the assistance of foreign judges for the Udalagama and Paranagama commissions and added that some people are having cheap attempts to mislead the people saying the president sirisena is trying to betray the country.

After the war in Sri Lanka the UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon arrived to island and visited North and East. He came back to Colombo and issued a joint press communique with the former president Mahinda Rajapakshe agreeing to protect the international Human Rights levels and the human rights rules and to hold a fair investigation with the UNHR commission related to this, he added.

He said althought the terrorism is defeated and the the war is won, they were failed to win the peace with the Tamil community. The international community was divided with this issue, but after the January 8 in last year the international community spoke about us in confidential, further said the minister.

Minister Dissanayake made these observations yesterday (15) in a press conference held at the Department of Government Information
