Sri Lanka Navy said it has assisted the Sri Lanka Coast Guard on Wednesday (March 03) to arrest four Indian fishermen along with an Indian fishing trawler in Sri Lankan waters.
The Indian fishermen were arrested when they were poaching in the seas west of Karainagar Island on 9th March 2016.
The arrested fishermen along with the fishing trawler will be handed over to the officials of the Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources of Kankasanthurai for onward action, the Navy said.
According to the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu J. Jayalalithaa, before Wednesday's arrest, 64 Tamil Nadu fishermen and 77 boats are in Sri Lankan custody.
