The National ceremony to mark the World Kidney Day will be held today (March 10) at Kilinochchi Madya Maha Vidyalaya under the patronage of President Maithripala Sirisena.

According to the Director of Presidential task Force on Prevention of Kidney Disease Asela Iddawela, President Sirisena has instructed him to use the President's Kidney Fund, which has reached Rs. 90 million, for the welfare of kidney patients, especially to strengthen treatment.

More attention will be paid to educate the school children on preventing kidney diseases and to raise awareness in the society by preventing and identifying kidney diseases. The activities have already commenced to mark the occasion.

In December last year, the task force brought all experts, specialists and scholars conducting researches and surveys on Chronic Kidney Disease of Unknown Etiology (CKDU) to one table. They will meet again at the end of April with the assistance of the WHO and are expected to reach a stand on CKDU.
