He made this observation addressing an awareness programme on Drug Prevention at the Kurunegala District Secretariat recently.
Kithalawarachchi said people in Kurunegala have spent around Rs.18 billion for alcohol and Rs.4,500 million to treat diseases related to alcohol and narcotics.
The director said people in Kurunegala had spent Rs.18 billion on Alcohol and Rs. 3.5 billion on cigarettes.
