As per the MoU, the Government of India will gift 150 boats and other fishing equipment to 300 beneficiaries in Mullaithivu. The project will be implemented with the consultation of the Ministry of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Development and relevant local authorities. The total cost of the project is Rs.100 million and the High Commission of India will float a tender to procure the items through a competitive bidding process.
The MoU was signed at the Ministry of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Development by Y.K. Sinha, the High Commissioner of India and Ms. W.M.M.R. Adikari, the Secretary to the Ministry of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Development. Minister of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Development Mahinda Amaraweera was also present.
