    Navy arrests 29 local fishermen engaged in illegal fishing

    Sri Lanka Navy Monday (May 30) arrested 29 local fishermen for engaged in illegal fishing practices.

    On information received, naval personnel attached to Oluvil Naval Sub Unit in Southeast Naval Area in collaboration with P 225 and P 143 Fast Attack Craft (FAC) arrested 29 local fishermen engaged in illegal fishing activities in the seas off Kalmunai on May  29.


    During the arrest a Multi-Day Fishing Trawler, a one-Day Fishing Trawler, two Fiber Glass Dinghies, four Wooden Catamarans, 33 Oxygen Cylinders and 10 Diving Masks were also taken into the naval custody.


    The arrested persons and the items were handed over to the Addalachchenai Fisheries Inspector for further investigations.
