K.G. Babynona (69), was on the pedestrian crossing when she got hit on last Friday (17th June) by the vehicle MP Wijewickrema was travelling.

According to police most vehicle accidents happen due to negligence of the drivers. More than 2,700 people were killed in road accidents last year – an increase of more than 300 from 2014. In less than 10 years, more than 23,000 people have been killed on Sri Lanka’s roads with more than 50,000 sustaining serious injuries, a factor that is pushing up the national health bill.
