    Cabinet approval for compensations for more families in Salawa

    Cabinet of Ministers approved a proposal made by the Minister of Disaster Management Anura Priyadarshana Yapa to settle the Rs.50, 000- payment for more houses in Salawa, destroyed by the Army Ammunition Dump explosion.

    The explosion damaged movable and immovable properties in 12 Grama Niladhari Divisions around the Salawa Army camp and currently, the families whose houses or business places were damaged are being paid by Rs. 50, 000 until they are resettled in their residences. The payments process is running according to the recommendations made by the committee appointed under the chairmanship of Susil Premajayantha, Minister of Science, Technology and Research.   About 400 families have received  their payment so far.

     

    In par with that, this proposal has been made by the Disaster Management Minister to pay a monthly allowance of Rs. 50,000/- for others who could not resettle in their houses and accelerate the payment of compensations to movable properties according to the recommendations of the relevant Assessing Committees.

     

    The Cabinet has also decided to advise relevant parties to accelerate the relief activities for the residents in Western Province including Kolonnawa area, which was recently affected by the floods.
