President Maithripala Sirisena will introduce this initiative as a National program within the next two weeks, said the Minister.
Under this program three types will be introduced to suit the economic situation of the households.
The households can fit a Solar energy panel and obtain the electricity needed for the home and sell the excess electricity to the Ceylon Electricity Board. This will create an additional income for the households.
The Ministry is planning to present a detailed report as a paper to the cabinet, said Power and Renewable Energy Minister Ranjith Siyambalapitiya.
Minister Siyambalapitiya made these comments at a meeting held on August 10 which was attended by representatives of Public and Private banks. The meeting was organized to discuss concessional rate loans for needy households to assist in purchasing Solar Energy panels.
The minister requested that banks introduce this as a special project to its customers as it is a national project.
