Minister of Primary Industries Daya Gamage expects to establish seven Agricultural High Zones in Ampara, Kurunegala, Galle, Matale, and Kilinochchi Districts before the end of this year.
Addressing the Parliament yesterday at the debate on the Levy on Special Commodities he added that the present government is in view of increasing exports while confining the imports.
He pointed out that the import expenditure had declined in 2015 parallel to 2014.
His ministry has begun the ‘Dhanasawiya’ initiative with the purpose of improving the income of one million women entrepreneurs, and thereby the monthly income of each one of these entrepreneurs to be increased by Rs. 100,000.
