The second phase of the Jaffna Pannai Prison will be built at a cost of Rs 623.32 million and will be able to accommodate 1000 detainees.
The first phase of the project was completed and can accommodate 130 detainees.
The proposal to commence the second phase was made by Minister of Prison Reforms, Rehabilitation, Resettlement and Hindu Religious affairs D.M. Swaminathan and it was approved by the Cabinet of Ministers said Parliamentary Reforms and Mass Media Minister Gayantha Karunathilaka.
