Without making the Science and Technology City a dream, Techno City, one of the main parts of this Urban Development Plan which is operating through number of strategic fields is to commence under the patronage of Honorable Prime Minister Ranil Wickremasinghe on September 22, 2016 at 10.00 am at the Sri Lanka Institute of Nano Technology Pitipana, Homagama.
Minister of Megapolis and Western Development Patali Champika Ranawaka, Minister of Science, Technology and Research Susil Premajayantha, Minister of Highways and Higher Education Lakshman Kiriella, Deputy Minister of of Megapolis and Western Development Lasantha Alagiyawanna and around 400 guests will be present at this occasion.
The regions from Malambe to Homagama in the Western Province has been selected as the most suitable environment for the new Techno City as those regions have been identified as very crowded areas. Accordingly the constructions of new Techno City are to be commenced while dividing Malambe into three technical zones and Homagama into seven technical zones.
Sri Lanka's first class institutions in the fields of science and technology, University of Moratuwa, University of Sri Jayawardhenapura, University of Colombo, Arthur C Clarke Institute for Modern Technologies, National Science Centre are to be commenced their projects in the technical zone which will commence on September 22. Accordingly, the Urban Development Authority (UDA) is working on granting 25 acres to each university and 10 acres to each technical institution affiliated with this task.
Another 1000 acres have already indentified for the future work of this project and UDA is currently working on acquisition of those lands. Accordingly the whole project will be functioned within 1200 acres. Meantime the arrangements are in place to develop a four lane road system from Makumbura to Uduwana junction as it is important to win the future world with the Techno City.
Sri Lanka should be empowered with modern technologies and human resource to contest in the world economy at a time all middle income countries are trying to coincide with the developed countries. The first step for the above task will be marked with the commencement of Techno City and there is no doubt it will become the zone which leads Sri Lanka forward in the future.
