    Sign language interpreters’ training begins tomorrow

    A Diploma Course to train 50 sign language interpreters with immediate effect will begin tomorrow at the Ministry of Social Welfare and Empowerment.


    The Department of Social Services conducts the training course according to the instructions given by the Minister of Social Welfare and Empowerment S.B. Dissanayake. Recently, the minister revealed that there were only 8 sign language interpreters in Sri Lanka to help nearly 500,000 deaf people.


    The students selected from the Samurdhi beneficiaries’ families for this one-year diploma course will be provided bus fare during the course and they will be  attached to the required institutions at the end of the course.
