Purpose of establishing the National Media Center by the government is building the reconciliation through media and make the public aware about the development process carried out by the government, said the Chairman of the NMC, former Media Minister Imtiaz Bakeer Markar.
Paying a courtesy call on the Mahanayake theroes in Kandy, he also said thatthat assistance will be obtained from the Department of Government Information for the above purpose.
Rejecting allegations regarding the NMC that it was established to bring a media censorship in the country, he replied them that he would work understanding the responsibility of the media in building reconciliation.
Director General of Government Information Dr. Ranga Kalansooriya also participated.
The Government official news portal is maintains by the New Media Unit of the Department of Government Information and it was titled "news.lk" and commenced in mid1996 and release to Internet from March 01st, 1997.
