He said the new building will have an Orthopaedic Unit, Plastic Surgeries and Burn Unit, 02 ENT Units, Gastro-Enterology and Genito-Urology Unit, Vitreo-Retinal Unit and facilities for treating Paediatric heart patients, and kidney diseases and eye diseases, increasing the number of beds from 300 and enabling performance of 130 additional surgeries.
Karapitiya Teaching Hospital which is the main hospital in Galle District provides its services to adjoining districts as well as provinces. It comprises of 60 wards and 1,838 beds and 24 specialized service units. The proposal was approved by the Cabinet of Ministers.
