Accordingly, 869 children who have passed the Grade five scholarship will be provided Rs 15,000 each while 1,652 children who have got through the O/L examination will receive Rs 20,000 each while 364 children who have secured university admission will receive Rs 30,000 each.
The scholarship program was started in 1996 for children of parents who have left for work overseas after registering with the Sri Lanka Foreign Employment Bureau. The highest number of scholarship recipients is from Gampaha in the Western Province amounting to 307 children.
