He expressed these views participating in the third general assembly of the National Fisheries Federation on 12th September.  

“We have determined to fulfill our duty to the fisher community with the support of these newly appointed officers. We should pave the way for real fishermen to establish fishing associations and bear responsible offices in such organizations.”

 
“I have initiated the program of Blue Economy for the development of the Sri Lankan fisheries. I specially hope to establish a fisheries banking system in Sri Lanka. Also I hope to introduce a new insurance scheme for the fishermen that will benefit their spouses and children too”, also mentioned the State Minister.
