The government has decided to construct a housing scheme at Mahaiyyawa in Kandy as a solution to their housing problems and improve the living standards of the 1,220 families living in the Mahaiyyawa settlement.
It will be constructed in two stages as a joint venture with the Kandy development project and will consist of 1,220 housing units.
The Urban Development Authority will take over the necessary lands and the ownership of the houses built under this project will be given to the people free of charge.
The Government official news portal is maintains by the New Media Unit of the Department of Government Information and it was titled "news.lk" and commenced in mid1996 and release to Internet from March 01st, 1997.
