UPFA has given priority to Tamil candidates - Minister Nimal Siripala

    August 11, 2014

The UPFA has given priority to Tamil candidates in their nomination list considering the representation of 27 percent Tamil community in the Badulla district, said Irrigation and Water Resources Management Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva addressing a press conference at the SLFP Headquarters.

"We have nominated six Tamil candidates from the Kadurata Janatha Peramuna, National Workers' Union, Ceylon Workers' Congress and the SLFP. As three seats were taken off, we can nominate only two new candidates for Badulla," Minister De Silva said.

Muslim candidates have decided to contest separately as before and there was no Muslim representation in the Uva Provincial Council. (ST/KH)
