    Under the influence of the low pressure system in vicinity of Sri Lanka, showery and cloudy condition is expected to continue over the island and surrounding sea areas.General public, Naval and fishing communities are requested to be attentive about advisories issued by the Department of Meteorology in this regard further.Fairly strong gusty winds up to 50-60 kmph can be expected over the island, particularly over the Northern half of the island. Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in the Northern, Eastern, North-central, North-western andUva provinces. Showers or thundershowers will occur elsewhere particularly after 2.00p.m.Heavy falls above 100mm can be expected at some places in the Northern, North-central, Eastern, North-western, Central and Sabaragamuwa provinces.Misty conditions may occur at some places in the Central and Sabaragamuwa provinces during the morning.There may be temporary localized strong winds during thundershowers. General public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by lightning activity.

    WEATHER FORECAST FOR SEA AREAS AROUND THE ISLAND DURING

    Under the influence of the low pressure system in the vicinity of Sri Lanka, showery and cloudy condition is expected to continue over the surrounding sea areas.Naval and fishing communities are requested to be attentive about advisories issued by the Department of Meteorology in this regard further.Showers or thundershowers will occur in the sea areas around the island. Heavy showers or thundershowers can be expected at some places in the sea areas extending from Potuvil to Colombo via Batticaloa, Trincomalee, Kankasanturai and Puttalam.Winds will be North-easterly over the sea areas extending from Potuvil to Colombo via Trincomalee, Kankasanturai andPuttalam. Winds will be North-westerly to westerly in the other sea areas around the island.Winds speed will be 30-40 kmph over sea areas around the island and rough at times as the wind speed can increase up to 50-60 kmph at times.Temporarily strong gusty winds (up to 70-80 kmph) and rough seas can be expected during thundershowers.

    A low pressure area is likely to develop over South-west Bay of Bengal tonight (05th). It is very likely to move west-northwestwards across Sri Lanka and Gulf of Mannar.Due to this situation the showery condition is expected to enhance in the island particularly in the Eastern, Uva and North-central provinces from tonight (05th).General public, Naval and fishing communities are requested to be attentive about advisories issued by the Department of Meteorology in this regard further.Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in the most parts of the island.Heavy falls about 100-150mm can be expected at some places in the North-central, Eastern, Uva and Central provinces and in Hambanthota district.Misty conditions may occur at some places in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and Central provinces during the morning.There may be temporary localized strong winds during thundershowers. General public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by lightning activity.
