The foundation stone for the new Poonakary hospital complex was laid by President Mahinda Rajapaksa on 20th July 2011. This new hospital is located in A 32 Road. Poonakary Divisional Hospital will cater to 2693 families in 10 GN divisions under Poonakary divisional secretariat.

Global Fund to fight AIDS, Tuberculosis & Malaria (GFATM), U.S. Pacific Command (PACOM) and Provincial Specific Grant (PSDG 2012) funded the construction project of Poonagary Divisional Hospital. Minister of Traditional Industries and Small Enterprise Development Douglas Devananda, Governor of Northern Province G.A. Chandrasiri,  also participated at this occasion. (KH)
