WEATHER FORECAST FOR SEA AREAS AROUND THE ISLAND
Showery and windy conditions are likely to be enhanced in the Western, South-western and Southern sea areas of the island till 19th July 2019.Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in the sea area off the coast extending from Puttalam to Hambanthota via Colombo and Galle. Showers or thundershowers may occur at a few places in the other sea areas around the island in the evening or night.Winds will be South-westerly and speed will be 30-40 kmph in the sea areas around the island.The sea area extending from Mannar to Pottuvil via Puttalam, Colombo, Galle and Hambantota will be very rough at times as the wind speed can increase up to 60-70 kmph at times.Naval and fishing communities are requested to be vigilant in this regards.Temporarily strong gusty winds and rough seas can be expected during thundershowers.

Showery and windy conditions are likely to enhance particularly over South-western part of the island from 16th to 19th July 2019.Fairly strong gusty winds up to 50 kmph are likely along the North-western, Western and Southern coastal areas.Showers will occur at times in Sabaragamuwa, Central, Western, Southern and North-Western provinces. Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in Uva province and in Ampara and Batticaloa districts after 2.00 p.m.Heavy falls about 100 mm are likely at some places in Western, Central and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in Galle and Matara districts.There may be temporary localized strong winds during thundershowers. General public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by lightning activity.
