    Sri Lanka to build first Maternity and Children’s Hospital in Beliatta Featured

    The Ministry of Health has taken steps to sign an agreement with the Netherland Government for the construction of Sri Lanka’s first fully fledged Maternity and Children’s Hospital in Beliatta.

     

    The linking of the agreement for the construction of the first Specialized Maternity and Children’s Hospital in Beliatta took place at the Health Ministry recenlty. The Agreement was signed by Netherlands Ambassador to Sri Lanka L.W.M. Piet and Minister of Health Maithripala Sirisena.

     

    The total cost of the proposed Hospital Complex with the assistance from the Government of the Netherlands will be 4,870 million rupees. It will be equipped with facilities such as an OPD, a Blood Bank, a Labour Room, a Surgical Theatre, an ICU, a Basic Treatment Unit and an Auditorium. A noteworthy feature will be the provision of residential facilities to all staff members. The Hospital will be a six-storey building and it is planned to complete construction within three years.

     

    Expressing views on the occasion, Minister Maithripala Sirisena expressed his gratitude to the Government of the Netherlands for the concessionary loan assistance granted for the hospital.

     

    Health Ministry Secretary Sudharma Karunaratne, Additional Secretary Somaratne Vidanapathirana and a special delegation from the Netherlands Government were present at the signing of the agreement.
